Safescape Laddertube is a state-of-the-art escapeway system, designed for use in the mining industry. A fully enclosed, durable polyethylene product, Laddertube is not impacted by water, salt or other mineral deposits, can be easily installed in blasted, alimak and raise bore rises.

Ergonomic design for improved protection

Laddertube’s ergonomic design makes climbing easier, and the top down installation process is safer and more efficient. The unique design complies with WA Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995, as well as meeting all the design and testing criteria of AS1657 and MSHA requirements.

Laddertube has the flexibility to suit a range of mine conditions, and has been designed specifically to be compatible with mine rescue techniques. The design ensures that climbing is easier than a rung ladder, and the enclosed travelway offers users a strong sense of security.

Designed with mine rescue in mind

Laddertube was designed with mine rescue in mind; it is a straight line ladder system with landing gate style platforms. The design allows for a rapid stretcher extraction and has a built in fall arrest static line. Climbing with breathing apparatus is aided by the smooth interior surface of the ladderway. The design of the steps also allows the climber to use their lower leg muscles and reduces foot fatigue - a significant benefit compared to rung style ladders.

Our rigorous approach to safety informs everything we do

At Safescape, we are committed to designing products that maximise the safety of users.

  • An escapeway should be safe and ready to use at any time, so we created a design that is corrosion resistant and sealed, preventing deterioration and salt build up.
  • There is no such thing as a safe distance to fall within a ladderway, so Laddertube is fitted with a static line fall arrest system as standard.
  • Rehabilitation of degraded escapeways is dangerous and avoidable. Laddertube’s resilient plastic construction will not rust or deteriorate, and with the option to fill the annulus, escapeways in even the worst ground conditions can remain stable for the life of the mine.
  • A cost effective escapeway solution will help mine operators select the optimum escapeway design. Keeping escapeways affordable may allow more escapeways to be placed in dedicated fresh air ways.

Additionally, the bright yellow construction ensures the ladderway is highly visible, and the design of Laddertube allows for a straight line stretcher pull, saving precious time in the event of an emergency.

Manufactured with highly visible yellow durable polyethylene, Laddertube won't corrode or degrade over time and requires less maintenance and up-keep than traditional steel ladders.

A fully enclosed, durable polyethylene product, Laddertube is not impacted by water, salt or other mineral deposits, and can be easily installed in blasted, alimak and raise bore rises .It requires minimal upkeep, fits comfortably within a 1.1m / 42” raisebore and provides for the ultimate in user safety.

Safescape Laddertube has been designed to ensure a minimum of maintenance is required. Being sealed and corrosion resistant, maintenance should be as simple as routine inspections and cleaning of air deposited materials (i.e. mine exhaust) if required.

Fall arrest for improved safety

Safescape Laddertube was designed for miners, by miners, and is ideally suited to the conditions found in underground mines. Used primarily for secondary egress escapeway ladders, Safescape Laddertube can also be found in manways.

Every Laddertube is fitted with a static fall arrest system for additional safety. The design has a rest platform every 6 metres, but can be varied depending on a country's specific regulations.We believe there is no such thing as a safe distance to fall within a ladderway, so Laddertube is fitted with a static line fall arrest system as standard.

Installed to your specifications

To date, we have supplied over 65,000m/213,254’ of Laddertube to over 160 mine sites across the globe. It can be efficiently installed to any practical length, and is suitable for varied mine conditions.
Laddertube comes in 2100mm sections top to toe and has an approx. diameter of 960mm. It requires minimal upkeep, can be easily installed in blasted, alimak and raise bore rises and efficiently installed to any practical length and varied mine condition.

Cost effective and quick to install

Safescape Laddertube is not only quick and cost effective to manufacture, it also reduces installation costs by being rapid and easy to install and compact enough to fit inside a 1m rise. Backfilling around Laddertube can limit the deterioration of rises, which is often costly and difficult to remedy.
